Cosmetic Surgery? Are You Covered By Health Insurance

Cosmetic Surgery is one of the most common forms of surgeries these days. Gone are the times when people would hide after going under the knife. They have become open and frank about the idea of Cosmetic Surgery. After all, who does not want to look perfect?

Most of the health insurances do not cover cosmetic surgery, because the insurance companies believe that the person is better off even without the surgery. They refuse to cover for the surgeries done for the beautification of the body. However, reconstruction surgery is covered under health insurance, but the amount of coverage the patient gets varies from different cases and situations.

There are times the same surgery can cover the insurance of one patient while the other fails to get it. For example, in case a patient goes through a tummy tucker surgery in order to avoid the health problems in obesity, then the insurance companies cover this surgery. While on the other hand, if the same surgery is performed keeping aesthetic aspect of the surgery in mind, then the insurance companies do not cover the claim. The same happens in case of eyelid surgery. Cosmetic surgeries are always covered in case they are done for the health purpose. The advancement in medical sciences has allowed the people to go for such surgeries and avoid possible health problems which could take place.

Keeping in mind the eligibility of the insurance, there is a fine line between the plastic, cosmetic and reconstruction surgeries. Since most of the cosmetic surgeries are performed keeping the aesthetic aspect in mind, the claim is usually not given to the patients. In case you are getting a plastic surgery done in order to enhance your beauty, in that case most of the insurance companies will refuse to cover for such a thing.

However, there are certain health insurances which cover the plastic surgeries as well, provided you choose the insurance plan which has cosmetic surgeries under it. In case you are looking for an insurance which covers the same, you must ask the insurance agent before signing the papers whether the chosen plans meets your requirement. You can also compare insurances offered by different companies and choose the one which is the best for you. Finding an insurance cover for cosmetic surgery is no rocket science, and you can easily find one if you make a little efforts.
